Located at the
end of Anzac Parade, there is a one way circular drive. Park yourself as
close as you can to the entrance of Bare Island. The entry/exist points into
the water will
depend on which side of the island you wish to dive (or can dive due to
ocean conditions).
The most
popular dive is on the eastern side of the island. You will need to walk to
the bottom of the drive way and turn left before the bridge. Make your way
down the rocks and into the water. This dive starts in around 3m of water
and reaches a maximum depth of 12m. Simply follow the wall out keeping it on
your right and return keeping the wall on your left.
This dive site
is well known for Weedy Sea Dragons, Blue gropers, Large Sea Stars, Moray
Eels, Octopus and plenty of sponge gardens.
The Western
side of the island is recommended when the Eastern is too rough to dive (as
it is usually protected from swells by the island). To enter, walk across
the bridge and down the stairs and back under the bridge . For a nicer dive,
walk right out to the point and follow the rocks down to the sandy bottom.
Once the dive drops below 9m the water generally clears up and the dive is a
lot more interesting. The Average depth is 12m – 14m. You may be able to
circumnavigate the island, that is, if you stick to the shallower depths and
are very good on your air consumption.
If you plan to dive this site for the first time, our friendly instructors & dive masters would welcome the opportunity to fully brief you on this site prior to your dive. |
