Leap, Kurnell, NSW.

Type: Shore Dive, Depth: 6-20 metres, Visibility 5-12 metres, Toilet Facilities: Yes, Parking: Car Park.

Following Captain Cook drive all the way till you reach the Toll Gate into Kurnell National Park that will lead you to this magnificent dive site. Make sure you have $6 in change on you as the machine does not accept notes. Once in the park continue up the road, past the discovery centre entrance and the turn off for the monument, continue along the road till you see a small car parking area on your right at the top of the incline.

To avoid the risk of being swept out to sea, the leap is best done on an incoming tide and makes for a great drift dive. To get to the entry point, extreme care needs to be taken when climbing down the rock face and onto the rock platform below. This dive site is therefore best recommended for more experienced and confident divers. Make a giant stride entry off the rock platform (waiting for the water to reach its highest point before jumping) and then fin yourself away from the rocks. Descend onto the boulders and head left along the boulders towards the Steps entry/exit point. You can either seek deeper depths by looking for a sand line or you can follow the boulders at around 11m and check out the cool sponge gardens.

If you do decide to seek depth, keep a close eye on your air and come up to the shallower depths to conserve air so as to reach the exit point underwater. Get out of the water at ‘the Steps’ entry/exit point. If the conditions are too rough to exit at the Steps, you can drift or snorkel towards the Monument/Inscription Pt exits.

If you plan to dive this site for the first time, our friendly instructors & dive masters would welcome the opportunity to fully brief you on this site prior to your dive.
